It's That Time of Year...

For tons of feasts! Ah, there is a reason why I love Thanksgiving. Being able to cook all kinds of delicious foods and treats for everyone and being thankful with the things that you have.

But to tell you the truth, I'm thankful for everything that I have each and every day. I can't really say specifically what I'm thankful for, since I don't even remember, but I know that I am thankful for having such wonderful friends such as Kirby, all the other Dreamlanders, and new ones at this school! I hope you're feeling better, Smee, by the way. <strike>I would also be thankful if his Majesty Dedede would be pleased with that meal that I made for him...I'm so nervous....I don't want to be bread pudding. *gulp*</strike>

Ooh, and since I'm a chef and all, I want to share some recipes that would appeal to many people. I know that there might be some vegetarians or people, who are originally birds, that simply cannot dare to eat their own species. Don't fret! There's a good recipe for you.

-----------

Ratatouille (No, not the Pixar movie, though I did enjoy it very much)

Yield: 6 servings
Time: 1¼ hours

Ingredients:
-1 pound eggplant
-salt
-3 T olive oil
-3 cloves garlic, chopped
-2 medium onions, roughly chopped
-3 T fresh basil, chopped
-3 T fresh parsley, chopped
-1 t oregano
-½ t rosemary
-½ t thyme
-1 pound zucchini, cubed
-1 red and 1 green bell pepper, seeded and chopped or sliced
-2 large tomatoes, roughly chopped
-black pepper

Directions:
-Slice the eggplant, sprinkle both sides of each piece generously with salt, and lay out on platters or plates. After 45 minutes,* rinse off the salt, pat dry, and cube.
Heat olive oil over medium heat, add garlic and onion, and sauté for 5 minutes.

-Add eggplant and herbs, stir well, and cover. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes, until eggplant is tender.

-Stir in zucchini, bell peppers, tomatoes, and black pepper. Cover and simmer for another 10 minutes, until zucchini and peppers are cooked.

Notes:
-Salting eggplant removes the bitter flavor, but you have to be careful. If you leave the salt on for too long, it will permeate the eggplant and - unless you're wild about salt - ruin the ratatouille. The general rule of thumb is that smaller eggplants are less bitter, so very small ones only need 30 minutes or so of salting, while very large ones may take up to an hour. The eggplant is ready when several tablespoons of tan-colored liquid have oozed out of each slice.

-This recipe is quite versatile. It can be served hot, warm, or cold. It can stand alone as a stew; cover pasta, rice, polenta, mashed potatoes, or toast; or fill a crepe or sandwich. I once tried it with some leftover pesto - delicious!

-The ingredients are also pretty flexible - just be sure that they are fresh!

-----------

Roast Turkey with Cranberry Orange Glaze

Yield: 12 servings
Time: 3 hours

Ingredients:
-3/4 cup orange marmalade
-3/4 cup frozen cranberry juice concentrate, thawed
-3 tablespoons maple syrup
-1 1/2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
-1/2 teaspoon salt
-1 14-pound turkey
-no-stick cooking spray

Directions:
-Preheat oven to 325°F. Combine marmalade, cranberry juice concentrate, maple syrup, vinegar and salt in small heavy saucepan. Bring to boil on medium heat, stirring frequently. Reduce heat to low. Cook, uncovered, stirring frequently for 12 to 15 minutes, or until glaze is reduced to about one cup.

-Remove neck and giblets from body and neck cavities of turkey; discard or refrigerate for another use. Drain juices from turkey and dry turkey with paper towels. Turn wings back to hold neck skin against back of turkey.

-Place turkey, breast side up, on a flat roasting rack in a shallow pan. Brush turkey lightly with vegetable oil or cooking spray. Roast turkey for 2 hours and then cover breast and top of drumsticks loosely with foil to prevent overcooking of breast.

-Continue roasting turkey for another 45 minutes. Remove foil and brush generously with glaze. Return foil loosely to top of turkey and cook for another 45 minutes, or until meat thermometer reaches 180°F when inserted into the deepest part of the thigh.

-Brush with remaining glaze. Let turkey stand 15 minutes before carving.

And that's it! I hope that all of you have a fantastic Thanksgiving! I know I will.

(OOC: This is a disclaimer. Recipes are copyrighted to Butterball.com and TheVeggieTable.com)

Logs I would like to do if anyone wants to:

Kawasaki:

-Anything food-related with Kirby.
-Cook-off? 8DDD

Cackletta:

-Mentor and pupil time. But that will wait until another person apps for Fawful. (No, Cammi, I'm not mad at you. <33)
-Fight with Mario Bros? Hopefully it will be epic.

Bleck:

-Get-together with all minions, but unsure. We need an O'Chunks, and I haven't seen Mimi around. D:

Suggestions are always welcome! I still have tons of homework, but I'd love to RP with any of you. It'd be good practice for me (since I'm terrible at writing RP's) and fun for all. YES. *thumbs up*

Writer's Block: Department of Stereotypes

One of the most popular gender stereotypes is that women ask for directions while men would rather be lost than ask for help. In your personal experience, does this stereotype hold true?

View 500 Answers

I personally say that this is true from my own experience, though I'm not very happy to say that, haha.

I remember getting lost on a fishing trip with Fumu for three days just because I didn't want to ask for help.

But in all honesty, I think we guys don't really ask for directions because it kinda takes the fun out of the trip. I would like it better to learn where to go and where not to go rather than get directions. If you get lost, then we learn that we shouldn't go there next time we go on that specific trip again <strike>that is, if we ever get out from being lost</strike> and plus, we can have an adventure at the same time.

Sure we might waste a lot of time and get angry seeing how women are so picky about being on time, but at least we are lucky enough to have an adventure from being lost.

(OOC: Strikes meaning that he's mumbling. Very pointless entry is very pointless so I can find an excuse to enter SBG without feeling so awkward...)

Hot Springs Trip and Note To Myself.

It was FANTASTIC.

I have to say, I had a lot on the Porky's bus ride over there. It was so chaotic, haha. I'm afraid that I might've been one of the only people who actually enjoyed the bus ride. But then again, Porky had a TV, so I was distracted.

The hotel itself was amazing. It really felt like that I was back in Japan from one of my trips on learning about new dishes. Ah, good memories. Before I went to the hot springs, I decided to go to the nearby bar. It was great. I was able to talk to more of the staff members that I haven't talked to before.

The hot springs......oh goodness. I never knew that it could be relaxing and exciting at the same time. So many things happened at the springs. I was so shocked to see some of the staff members revert back to their childhood. And Porky.....WOW. That's all I gotta say.

So apparently, the boys' rooms were raided. I still can't believe it. Why? Why would they want to do something like this? Torturing kids that never did anything to them. Why do they fail to realize that what they are doing is not funny? It's cruel. Others are hurt, humiliated, angry. Haha, look at me. I'm just ranting. I can't do anything about it, I'm just a stupid cooking teacher. I'm just making a big deal out of this for no reason. I'm just going to forget about this. Yeah. That's what I'll do.... I hope Kirby's ok.

I Sure Missed Out.

Oh, boy. I can't believe that I missed out on working at the cafe again. I'm so embarrassed. I was so busy cleaning up my house that I forgot.

(OOC: Man, I can't ever get on AIM on Sunday nights. I always do my homework during that time. xDDD CURSES.)

Oh, well, I heard that a lot of people over there had a really good time, or so I heard.

A few days ago, I was giving out free samples of my Super-Hot Kawasaki Special Curry. From the looks of it, everybody seemed to like it. I'm really glad about that. Though I did get burnt to a crisp from one of the people who tried it, but I was happy to know that people liked it nonetheless.

It's weird, I don't normally look like that when I'm cooking something. I don't know what got over me when I was making that curry....

So, how was everybody's day so far? Sorry if I missed out on anything important.

Last night was....eventful. That's all I could say really. In case any of you are wondering, the entire staff had a movie night. Unfortunately, some of the staff couldn't make it, but a good number of us were there. We watched a very interesting movie, let me tell you that.

Hummmm.....I should really get used to people insulting my cooking.... I was surprised that I didn't flood the teacher's lounge with all of my crying. But I'm ok now. In fact, I kind of giggle at that fact.

Oh, I really don't have much to say because I really don't want to say anything else.

Students, welcome to my Cooking class! I am your teacher Mr. Kawasaki, but I think the majority of you know me as Chef Kawasaki and that's ok, too.

In this class, we'll be learning how to cook delicious foods and dishes. The foods that I will be teaching first will be ones that we know like cookies, spaghetti and pizza. But as we go along the school year, we'll be learning more exotic dishes, some examples would be the Vietnamese soup dish, phỡ (it would seem that only a few journals support that symbol) and a Greek dish including lamb and this bread called pita. <strike>But let me warn you, although the recipes have the right ingredients to make the dish delicious, my own cooking seems to be terrible, so I hope that all of you are better than me.</strike> Oh, and for you Pokemon trainers, I can also teach on how to make Pokemon food.

Everyone who is interested in cooking is free to attend this class, so don't hesitate to sign up! And teachers, you are always welcome into the classroom to see what's going on. Who knows? You might even get free samples.

Now, even when it comes to a laid-back class like Cooking, I have some rules that must be obeyed. I am normally really lenient when it comes to kids like you, but this class is dangerous, and rules that are broken can lead into catastrophe. I know some of you might...*gulp*...like causing catastrophe, but you might get hurt in the process also.

Here are the rules. No talking while I'm lecturing. No touching other students. <strike>Especially since I keep hearing strange rumors about all of the boys at this school.</strike> No eating or drinking in class unless it's an actual dish that I'm teaching you. NEVER run in this classroom. I've had many accidents happen to me during my training as a chef. *shudders* No matches or any flammable objects allowed. We are going to use stoves, so it's prohibited to bring any of those things with you.

That's pretty much it. If there is going to be homework, then it would be to find a recipe of your own and turn it in. If we have extra time, we might be able to make that recipe for the class.

OOC- Character Information

Might as well be jumping into the bandwagon. Oh, how I love bandwagons.

Canon Outline/Backstory: In the games, Chef Kawasaki was a mini-boss in Kirby Super Star and when defeated, Kirby is given the Cook ability. In Kirby's Dream Land 3, he wasn't an enemy, but part of a mini-game. If Kirby were to win the mini-game, Kawasaki would give him a Heart Star. In the anime, Kawasaki owns the only restaurant in Pupu Village/Cappytown, which is pretty much how he can get business. He cooks terrible dishes, but he still tries, hoping to impress his teacher. But Kirby seems to love it. The frying pan that he is normally seen holding is his absolute prized possession because it was given to him by his teacher.

Sumabura Outline/Backstory: Kawasaki is obviously not in the Smash Bros. series, but he is a character of the Kirby series, so I don't see why I can't make him join. xD Kawasaki here is in his human form, (obviously) since I thought it might be a little awkward if Kirby was in human form and he wasn't. Basically, Kawasaki is not exactly an official chef yet, but he is striving to reach that goal. Even though he's had the training of becoming a chef, he isn't quite there yet, so he is currently starting out as a cooking teacher. He loves working at Sumabura so far. He loves the students, the employees, and is just happy in general. Of course there can be some students that can give him a hard time, but nonetheless, he still loves to help out anybody when it comes to cooking, even if he's a horrible cook. It's surprising from his terrible dishes that nobody got food poisoning yet.

Living Arrangements: Kawasaki lives by himself in a normal one-story house. But his house is a little messy from cooking instruments lying around, but he tries to be as neat as possible. In the house, you can see that he has a library FILLED with cookbooks. On the walls, there are various cooking tools from different cultures. Basically, one can tell immediately that he's a chef just from entering his house.

Classes: Obviously, Kawasaki teaches Cooking. He not only teaches how to cook different and exotic dishes, but he also teaches about the tools and how they are used and the history behind them.

Personality: Just from looking at Kawasaki, one can tell that he is a very happy and humorous chef who loves cooking. He loves telling jokes involving cooking and food in general and he also tells stories that his cooking experiences in the past. Since Kawasaki is really into cooking, he doesn't get out much seeing that he doesn't have a date yet, but he is sociable nonetheless. However, there are some times in which he would talk too much about his cooking. Although he is sociable, he can be slightly awkward towards the employees.

Brawling in Sumabura: Kawasaki doesn't seem like the type to fight, but he packs a mean frying pan. His way of fighting somehow involves cooking when he can throw hot dishes at his opponents and burn them. This can either be a huge adventage or disadventage since he knows how to cook Super Spicy Curry.

Yargh, this was hard to type out. xD
